Vietnam, Cambodia resolve to prevent community spread of COVID-19: spokesperson

Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam appreciates Cambodia’s decision to annuldiplomatic note 698 MFA.IC/API on restricting cross-border travel between the two countries, ForeignMinistry spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang said at the ministry’s regular pressbriefing on July 2.
Cambodia’s Ministry of ForeignAffairs and International Cooperation notified the Vietnamese Embassy of the termination of the validity of the March diplomatic note on June 22.
In reply to a Vietnam News Agency reporter’s question regarding the move,the spokesperson said Vietnam and Cambodia have been coordinating closely toensure entry and exit of prioritized cases, especially students, and normalborder trade between the two countries.
She went on to say that in the context of complicated developments ofthe COVID-19 pandemic in the region and the world, authorized agencies of bothsides will continue to study and discuss ways to ease entry-exit restrictions basedon the pandemic situation and each country’s health regulations, towards thehighest goal of well controlling the pandemic and preventing it from spreadingin the community in both countries./.
Cambodia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation notified the Vietnamese Embassy on June 22 of the termination of the validity of a March diplomatic note on restricting cross-border travel between the two countries.
Cambodia has launched a programme to give cash handouts to the country’s poorest households to alleviate the financial burden caused by the coronavirus.

During the negotiations, the US highly evaluated Vietnam’s goodwill and efforts, affirmed its appreciation for the bilateral relationship, acknowledged Vietnam’s proposals and concerns, and considered these an important basis for continuing discussions and moving towards a final agreement.
The Chairman stressed the need for stricter fiscal discipline, faster digital transformation, and more efficient management of State budget revenues and expenditures.
