Vietnam, Cambodia boost cooperation in border management

Vietnam and Cambodia agreed on directions for stepping up cooperationin border control at a high-ranking meeting in Siem Reap, Cambodia onJuly 14.

Lieutenant General Vo Trong Viet,Commander of the Vietnam Border Guard, and General Sok Phal, director-general of the Cambodian Interior Ministry's immigration department, reviewedthe implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding signed at theequivalent meeting in 2014.

They also assessedimmigration control and order and security in border areas and bordergates between the two countries.

They agreedthat the implementation of cooperation activities has built trust,mutual understanding and solidarity among forces working at borderareas.

They pledged to increase cooperation andsolve border issues on the principles of solidarity, friendship andrespect for each other’s independence sovereignty and territorialintegrity.

The two sides will coordinate inborder control and together turn the border into a peaceful, friendlyand stable one for mutual development and benefits.

During the visit to Cambodia from July 12-18, the Vietnam BorderGuard Command’s delegation will also meet Cambodian Deputy PrimeMinister Sar Kheng.-VNA
