Vietnam, Bolivia commit to strengthening cooperation

Hanoi (VNA) - Bolivia considers Vietnam a key partner in its strategy to deepen ties with South and East Asia, Bolivian Foreign Minister Celinda Sosa Lunda said during her meeting with Vietnamese Ambassador to Brazil and Bolivia Bui Van Nghi in La Paz on January 26.

Foreign Minister Sosa Lunda expressed her desire to strengthen relations with Vietnam, which were established 38 years ago, proposing. She proposed reinstating political consultations between the two foreign ministries and expanding cooperation in mining, tourism, and trade.

She also praised Vietnam’s struggle for national liberation as an inspiration for global independence movements as well as the Southeast Asian country’s socio-economic achievements in its Doi moi (renewal) process and international integration and its growing role in regional and international organisations.

On this occasion, Sosa Lunda invited Nghi to Bolivia’s bicentennial Independence Day celebration on August 6, coinciding with Bolivia's preparations for its presidential election later this year.

For his part, Ambassador Nghi emphasised Vietnam’s commitment to fostering meaningful cooperation with Bolivia, particularly in trade, science and technology, mining, and agriculture. Both sides pledged to collaborate closely in international forums such as the United Nations and the Non-Aligned Movement to promote global peace and sustainable development.

During his visit, the Vietnamese diplomat held discussions with Julio Kempff, Director of the Santa Cruz Federation of Private Entrepreneurs (FEPSC), and Jerjes Justiniano, President of the Bolivia-Vietnam Friendship Association.

Kempff expressed his interest in partnering with Vietnam in lithium mining, renewable energy, and high-tech agriculture. Talks also explored potential trade in agricultural products, minerals, consumer goods, and electronics.

Justiniano proposed initiatives to enhance cultural and economic ties, including a bilateral business forum, student exchange programmes, and spaces to showcase each nation’s products.

🐠 The ambassador also met with Vietnam’s Honorary Consul in Bolivia Miguel Angel Perez Pena, who reaffirmed his commitment to advancing economic, trade, and investment cooperation between the two countries./.
