Vietnam attends Singapore International Cyber Week

Singapore (VNA) – Deputy Minister of Public Security Sen. Lieut. GenNguyen Van Thanh is leading a Vietnamese delegation to join the 4th Singapore International Cyber Week 2019 (SICW), which opened on October 1.
In his remarks, Senior Minister and Coordinating Minister for National SecurityTeo Chee Hean stressed besides substantial benefits, digital technology hasposed pressing cyber threats to all countries worldwide as cybercrime hasbecome more sophisticated.
In that context, nations should join hands to respond to the challenges so asto build a safe cyber space that meets development requirements in eachcountry, he said, affirming as a victim of many cyber-attacks, Singaporepledges close cooperation with all countries to develop a secure network basedon regulations.
Singapore will play a catalyst role to promote collaboration and connectivityas well as ensure cybersecurity in the Southeast Asian region through trainingand sharing information about cybersecurity with other ASEAN member states, headded.
Meanwhile, Under-Secretary-General and Special Adviser to the Secretary-Generalon the Preparations for the Commemoration of the 75th anniversary ofthe United Nations Fabrizio Hochschild said as cyber-attack is a global issue,all countries should work together to address the challenge.
He expressed his belief that the SICW would offer an opportunity forpolicy-makers, experts, scholars and businesses to give out practical measuresthat help shape up a safe cyber space for digital economic development in thefuture.
Director of Southeast Asia at CyberTrap Holger Sontag told the Vietnam NewsAgency’s correspondent in Singapore that he has been impressed by his Vietnamesepartners, who have been aware of and shown outstanding abilities in ensuringcybersecurity.
Besides, Vietnam understands the need to apply advanced technologies in preventingand countering cybersecurity risks effectively, he added.
Taking place until October 3, the SICW, the region’s most establishedcybersecurity event, will feature the ASEAN Ministerial Conference on Cybersecurity(AMMC), GovernmentWare (GovWare) exhibition and conference, ASEAN CybercrimeProsecutors’ Roundtable Meeting, SICW Cybersecurity Lecture, and theInternational Common Criteria Conference./.
All licensed financial institutions must comply with a new set of requirements by next year to raise cyber security standards and strengthen cyber resilience of the sector, the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) said on August 6.
