Vietnam attends Meeting of Speakers of Eurasian Countries' Parliaments

Seoul (VNA) – National Assembly(NA) Vice Chairman Uong Chu Luu led an NA delegation to attend the second Meetingof Speakers of Eurasian Countries' Parliaments (MSEAP) in Seoul, the Republicof Korea (RoK), on June 27.

The event, co-chaired by Chairman of theState Duma of Russia Vyacheslav Volodin and Speaker of the RoK NationalAssembly Chung Sye-kyun, saw the participation of 28 delegations from Europeanand Asian nations.

Speaking at the meeting, Luu affirmed thatwith its huge potential, the Eurasian region plays an important role inensuring peace and stability and bringing in common prosperity in the regionand the world.

He stressed the need for Eurasian nationsto build a general orientation, stepping up integration and intensifyinter-regional cooperation comprehensively.

To reach these targets, it is essential topromote the role of multilateral cooperation mechanisms among governments andparliaments to deal with common challenges, protect countries’ legitimateinterests, and boost mutually-beneficial collaboration on the basis ofinternational law and common standards.

The Vietnamese official emphasised thatVietnam, with its foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, anddiversification and multilateralisation of international relations, is willingto actively participate in the regional and international integration process.

It hopes to collaborate closely withEurasian countries in the fields of education and training, science andtechnology, while willingly supporting inter-regional cooperation initiatives,Luu stated.

The Vietnamese National Assembly wants tofurther intensify its relations with parliaments of Eurasian countries in orderto improve its legal system and promote its role of representing the Vietnamesepeople.

He also took the occasion to raise severalissues for discussion, including measures to intensify regional andinter-regional economic connectivity, foster the global multilateral tradingsystem, and speed up Eurasian cooperation in technology transfer, environmentalprotection and climate change response.

The second MSEAP approved the SeoulDeclaration which emphasised that the parties involved agreed to make moreefforts to improve roles and functions of parliaments and expandinter-parliamentary cooperation to contribute to the prosperity of the regionand the world.

In the declaration, the countries alsocommitted to boosting cooperation in the fields of energy, human resources andpeople-to-people exchange, while supporting dialogue for economic integrationand measures taken by the United Nations and the Inter-parliamentary Union inhandling global challenges.-VNA
