Phnom Penh (VNA) – Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia Nguyen Minh Vu participated in the Islam- Buddhism Summit in Phnom Penh on February 27.

Co-organised by the Muslim World League (MWL) and the Cambodian Government, the event gathered over 1,000 delegates, including approximately 200 international guests from 35 countries. Discussions centered on sharing experience in fostering peaceful religious coexistence, cooperation, and harmony in the region and the world.

In his speech at the first-ever high-level Islamic conference held in Cambodia, Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet affirmed his Government's commitment to promoting religious harmony, one of the guiding principles upheld by the ruling Cambodian People's Party (CPP), to ensure peace and social cohesion.

Echoing this view, MWL Secretary-General Mohammed Bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa expressed optimism about the conference’s impact, given Cambodia’s long-standing experience in inspiring interfaith harmony, dispelling misconceptions, fostering mutual understanding, and preventing extremist narratives from distorting religious perceptions.

Buddhism is the dominant religion in Cambodia, with approximately 95% of the population identifying as Buddhists. The remaining 5% follow other religions, including Islam, Christianity, and Brahmanism.

༺ Founded in 1962, the MWL aims to strengthen Islamic and humanitarian cooperation worldwide and currently operates offices in 95 countries./.
