Vietnam attends int’l round-table on preserving linguistic diversity
Vietnam has been among countries attending an expert round table on “Topical Issues of Preserving Linguistic Diversity” held to mark International Mother Language Day (February 21).

Moscow (VNA) – Vietnam has beenamong countries attending an expert round table on “Topical Issues ofPreserving Linguistic Diversity” held to mark International Mother Language Day(February 21).
The virtual event was organised on February 19 bythe International Union of Non-Governmental Organisations “The EurasianPeople’s Assembly” under the auspices of the Commission of the RussianFederation for UNESCO.
It gathered member states of the Commonwealth ofIndependent States (SNG) and countries from other parts of the world.
The aim of the round table was to find ways toexpand the linguistic and intercultural communications of peoples, to promotemultilingualism in the interests of Eurasian integration.
Its discussion focused on a number of issues, forexample, the role of the native language as a carrier of culture, traditionsand history of each nation; increasing interest in languages and stimulatingthe study of native languages; the role of education in the preservation anddevelopment of the languages of the people of Eurasia; creation of anaccessible communicative language environment in the context of Eurasianintegration; and the role of public associations in the preservation anddevelopment of the languages of the people of Eurasia.
At the event, To Thi Tuyet Khanh, a representativeof the Banking Academy of Vietnam in Russia and advisor to the union’s firstvice secretary-general, delivered a report focusing on education of Vietnameseand Russian languages in both countries.
Vietnam and Russia have boasted a long-standingcooperation in education and training, particularly in linguistics, which hasproduced good results, she said.
Hundreds of thousands of Vietnamese students havepursued education in Russia and with their acquired knowledge, they have madecontributions to the national construction and development in Vietnam andstrengthening the bilateral relations, Khanh noted.
She voiced her hope that the Vietnamese will betaught in Russia’s schools and universities as a foreign language, especiallyfor Vietnamese children born in Russia./.
Many cultural activities have been held in the central province of Ha Tinh, the hometown of great Vietnamese poet Nguyen Du (1765–1820) who is the author of the Vietnamese masterpiece, Truyen Kieu (the Tales of Kieu), to celebrate his 255th birth anniversary and 200th death anniversary.
PM Pham Minh Chinh highlighted how Vietnam's revolutionary press has continuously evolved and strengthened over the past century, affirming its role as a sharp and vital political, cultural, and ideological weapon serving the Fatherland and the people in the glorious revolutionary cause of the Party.
Vietnamese Consul General in Fukuoka Vu Chi Mai highlighted the growing demand for Vietnamese workers in Kyushu, especially in Fukuoka, Oita, and Saga prefectures. Currently, the region employs about 35,000 Vietnamese manual workers and over 5,000 IT engineers.
In Vietnam’s case, she said, President Ho Chi Minh demonstrated his strategic vision by founding the revolutionary press a century ago. The late leader understood the press's role not only as a means to reflect the country’s realities but also as a powerful tool to strengthen national unity and inspire the resistance wars and national construction process.

VietnamPlus e-newspaper of the VNA clinched an A prize in the “Outstanding Press Product” category for its immersive 3D multimedia project, “Epic of Reunification,” a groundbreaking blend of storytelling and technology. The VNA won another A prize for its eye-catching exhibition booth.
Today, the press for foreign service has evolved into a distinct, irreplaceable force, bridging Vietnam with the world and portraying a nation that is stable, peace-loving, and fully integrated into the international community.
At a review conference held on June 21, Deputy Minister of Construction Nguyen Van Sinh praised the province’s scientific, coordinated, and flexible approach. He noted that the early completion reflects the strong commitment of local authorities, the business community, philanthropists, and residents in improving housing conditions for disadvantaged groups.
The VNA delegation, led by General Director Vu Viet Trang, actively participated in the event, engaging in both professional and diplomatic activities.
