Vietnam attends 22nd IFRC General Assembly in Geneva
A Vietnamese delegation is taking part in the 22nd General Assembly of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) that opened in Geneva, Switzerland, on December 5.

Geneva (VNA) – A Vietnamese delegation is takingpart in the 22nd General Assembly of the International Federation of Red Crossand Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) that opened in Geneva, Switzerland, onDecember 5.
The delegation is being led by President of theVietnam Red Cross Society Nguyen Thi Xuan Thu.
The event is looking at the IRFC Secretariat’splan and budget for 2015-2020 and has already approved three new importantprogrammes, namely the use of cash transfer in livelihoods programmes;integrating protection, gender and education in the IRFC’s programmes; andincreasing communication about humanitarian values.
Participants shared the view that humanitarianactivities have become an inevitable trend. The International Red Cross and RedCrescent Movement have been growing, and the federation has established itselfas a prestigious organisation in global humanitarian activities.
Addressing the event, IFRC President FrancescoRocca stressed that: “The message from our members and from our millions ofvolunteers couldn’t be clearer: climate change is an existential threat that isalready completely altering the work we do, and the lives of the people wesupport.”
The general assembly highly valued the effectivecontributions of over 14 million Red Cross and Red Crescent volunteers aroundthe world to disaster response, health care, social assistance, and support forvulnerable groups.
The meeting is set to adopt the IFRC’s Strategy2030 and discuss the One Billion Coalition, along with issues relevant tomigration, urbanisation, and support for civilians in armed conflicts anddisasters.
Also at this session, the Marshall Islands andBhutan red cross societies were admitted to the federation, raising the IRFC’smembership to 192./.
The Vietnam Red Cross Society (VRCS) Central Committee on August 12 presented nearly 300 million VND (12,900 USD) as urgent relief aid to 98 flood-affected households in Dinh Quan district, the southern province of Dong Nai.
