Vietnam, Algeria boost online trade amid COVID-19

Algiers (VNA) - Vietnam took part in the first onlineexhibition on trade, marketing, and national products in Algeria recently, asan honorary guest.

The Vietnamese representatives included the Vietnam Trade Office inAlgeria and four companies operating in farm produce, food, beverages andhealthcare in the country.

The expo was co-organised by the Andalus Trade, Show, Exhibits andEvents (TSEE) company and the Algeria Press Service.

The TSEE said a virtual international exhibition on food and beveragesis scheduled for November 1-16 in Algeria. Companies from seven countries havelined up to attend, including those from Germany, Turkey, Jordan, and Vietnam.

Vietnamese Trade Counsellor in Algeria Hoang Duc Nhuan said the Ministryof Industry and Trade (MoIT)’s Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency (VIETRADE) alsocoordinated with Vietnam trade offices abroad and the US Agency forInternational Development (USAID) to hold an online international trade conferenceon Vietnamese food and farm produce from September 22-25, which attracted over150 importers from 28 countries and territories worldwide, including 10 Algerianfirms.

From July to September, MoIT’s Department of Asian-African Markets and VIETRADE,in cooperation with Vietnam trade offices overseas, held two online seminars inHanoi and HCM City introducing Vietnam’s export-import potential to companiesin Africa and the Middle East, with hundreds of Vietnamese enterprises participating.

According to the General Department of Vietnam Customs, two-way tradebetween Vietnam and Algeria hit nearly 120 million USD in the first eightmonths of this year, down 11 percent year-on-year. Vietnam’s exports to theAfrican country were mostly coffee, pepper, aquatic products, metals, andchemicals, while it imported paper, pharmaceuticals, and animal feed./.
