Vietnam adopts ten-year climate-resilient urban development plan

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has approved a plan on developing climate-resilient urban areas in Vietnam in the 2021 – 2030 period.

Hanoi (VNA) – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuchas approved a plan on developing climate-resilient urban areas in Vietnam inthe 2021 – 2030 period.

The plan aims to facilitate Vietnam’s active response toclimate change, promote the efficient use of natural resources in upgrading anddeveloping urban areas and effectively reduce air, water and soil pollution inaccordance to international standards.

It will also enable the review and improvement of legaldocuments, planning and governance in urban development amid increasing climatechange risks; and enhance coordination among ministries, governmental agenciesand local administrations in managing climate-resilient urban areas.

The plan will be carried out in centrally-run provincesand cities nationwide, with a focus placed on those prone to floods, flash floods,and landslide in the northern mountainous, central coastal, southeast andCentral Highlands regions.

The plan will be divided in three phases – from 2021 –2025, 2026 – 2030 and beyond 2030./.

Vietnam r💙amps up plastic waste recycling, reuse, treatment efforts

In 2019, Quang Ninh became one of the first localities in Vietnam to launch a province-wide campaign against plastic waste, mobilising the participation of the political system, the business sector, and the general public. Other localities—such as Hai Phong, Da Nang, Binh Duong, and Ho Chi Minh City—have also effectively implemented waste-sorting initiatives at source, along with models for plastic-free markets and urban areas.
