Vietnam actively proposes common efforts against epidemics

Hanoi (VNA) – As Chair of ASEAN, Vietnam hasactively proposed and promoted common efforts of the bloc to effectively fightepidemics, the Foreign Ministry’s spokeswoman Le Thi Thu Hang at a regularpress conference in Hanoi on February 6.
Responding to a reporter’s question about the impact ofepidemics on Vietnam’s external affairs, Hang said Vietnam is actively takingmeasures to respond to and control them.
Vietnam will fully exercise obligations of an ASEAN memberstate and be determined to well perform the role of the ASEAN Chair 2020, shestated.
According to the spokeswoman, Deputy Prime Minister andForeign Minister Pham Binh Minh, in his capacity as Chairman of the ASEAN CoordinatingCouncil, sent letters to ASEAN countries on January 31 to suggest establishinga ministerial-level joint working group so as to enhance cooperation and informationsharing, as well as coordinate actions to fight epidemics.
Vietnam will continue keeping a close watch on thedevelopments of the epidemics, she said, adding that in case any adjustments tothe ASEAN Chair Year’s activities need to be made, the country will inform andconsult with other nations based on ASEAN consensus, thus ensuring that the activitiesduring the year will be held in the safest conditions./.
Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam has stressed the need to continue giving top priority to the endemic prevention and fighting, as the nCoV is spreading.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) on February 3 sent an urgent notice to the chairmen of the People’s Committees of centrally-run cities and provinces, calling for drastic and concerted measures against avian flu epidemics.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade’s Agency of Foreign Trade has urged for a close watch of the export of Vietnamese farm produce, particularly fruits and aquatic products, to China through northern border gates to get prepared against any unexpected development and prevent backlogs, as the acute respiratory disease caused by novel corona virus (nCoV) is ravaging the region.
