Vietjet to launch routes from Van Don in 2019

Budget carrier Vietjet Air plans to launch air routes to and from Van Don International Airport in the northern province of Quang Ninh in January 2019, the airline’s managing director Luu Duc Khanh said.

Hanoi (VNA) –꧂ Budget carrier VietjetAir plans to launch air routes to and from Van Don International Airport in thenorthern province of Quang Ninh in January 2019, the airline’s managingdirector Luu Duc Khanh said.  

Khanh unveiled thisinformation during a working session with the provincial People’s Committee inearly December. He called for assistance from local authorities and theairport’s operator in the first stage of opening these air routes. Quang Ninh will providesupport to the airline in terms of communication, advertisement and locationsin which to open ticket agents within the locality, Radio The Voice of Vietnam reported. In addition, theprovince will also offer travel services from Van Don to Ha Long and freesightseeing tours to a number of tourist attractions for passengers who use theairline. Capitalised at 7.5trillion VND (nearly 330 million USD), Van Don International Airport is thefirst private one in the country. It will operate under thebuild-operate-transfer (BOT) model. It is designed to receive two million passengers and 10,000 tonnes of cargo ayear. Nguyen Duc Long, thecommittee’s chairman, said the airport has been completed after three years ofconstruction. His province has reported to the Prime Minister and asked forsupport to quickly deal with legal procedures and open the airport. Quang Ninh authorities and Sun Group are expected to hold anopening ceremony at the end of December. -VNA
