Hai Phong (VNA) – The historical meaning of the victoryin countering the US’s naval blockade using torpedoes, mines and magnetic bombsin the north 50 years ago (June 27, 1973-2023) and lessons from the victorywere spotlighted at a conference held in the northern port city of Hai Phong onJune 26.
Participants highlighted the US imperialists’ plot of usingmines and magnetic bombs to block the northern rivers and seas in order tosuffocate the development of the north, thus limiting and preventing the region’sability to supply aid to the southern battlefields.
They also underlined the Party and President Ho Chi Minh’s respondingpolicies and measures to foil the US’s scheme.
Along with pointing out the causes and significance of the victory,participants also highlighted experience learnt from the successof Vietnamese military and people, and its application in the building andprotection of the national sovereignty over seas and islands in the currentperiod.
Addressing the event, Lieutenant General Nguyen VanBong - Secretary of the Party Committee and Political Commissar of the VietnamPeople’s Navy - attributed the victory to the wise and creative leadership of theParty and President Ho Chi Minh, as well as the solidarity between the navalforce and the people of the north, thus maintaining the operation of thegateway for trading activities and transport routes
After 50 years, the victory has still helped inspire patriotism, national prideand spirit of self-reliance and desire for peace among the community, strengtheningpeople’s trust in the leadership of the Party in the new period, he stated./.
