Hanoi (VNA) – Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan on September 18 addressed the fourth Eurasian Women’s Forum held in St. Petersburg, Russia, via a pre-recorded speech. She participated in the forum at the invitation of Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko.

In the speech at the plenary session, the Vice President praised the role and positive contributions of the forum, viewing it as a platform for exchanging and sharing opportunities, challenges, and solutions to enhance the role of women in all areas of society.

She underlined that the forum has conveyed a strong message about the role of women, not only in the development of their own countries but also in having a profound impact on peace and sustainable development in the region and the world.

Vice President Xuan affirmed that in recent years, Vietnam has achieved significant socioeconomic success, including gender equality and empowering women. The role and status of Vietnamese women have been elevated in all areas of social life, particularly in politics and the economy, she continued.

She highlighted that women, as ambassadors of peace and compassion, should be placed at the centre and granted greater authority in efforts to promote dialogue, build trust, and enhance cooperation to create a peaceful, happy, and prosperous world. Vietnam is committed to continuing to support the development of women, providing opportunities for them to access positive trends of the era and contribute more significantly to the noble goals set by the United Nations, she added.

In his opening remarks, Russian President Vladimir Putin affirmed that the active participation of women today is extremely important for building a multipolar, fair and truly free world.

Given the current global geopolitical situation, women need to play a key role in forming a fairer and humane world order, Matvienko said.

Held every three years since 2015, the Eurasian Women’s Forum aims to promote the role of women in all fields for the target of building a peaceful, prosperous, and sustainable world.

This year’s edition with the theme “Women for strengthening trust and global cooperation,” drew the participation of 1,500 delegates from 126 countries and international organisations, including many female leaders.

💃 The forum, which will last until September 20, features about 100 meetings and discussions, focusing on topics such as the role of women in shaping the agenda for peace and trust; women in the new economic era: technology and innovation; women for a healthy and happy society; women for a clean planet and food security; and women in preserving traditions and diversification./.
