VFF leader extends Chol Chnam Thmay greetings to Khmer people
President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Tran Thanh Man has extended his best wishes to Khmer people nationwide on the occasion of their New Year festival - Chol Chnam Thmay.

Hanoi (VNA) – President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) CentralCommittee Tran Thanh Man has extended his best wishes to Khmer peoplenationwide on the occasion of their New Year festival - Chol Chnam Thmay, whichfalls on April 14-16.
In his letter sent to Khmer monks andpeople, Man wrote that Vietnam gained many important achievements in thesocio-economic, defence, security and diplomatic fields in 2017 thanks to theefforts of the Party, army and citizens.
The material and spiritual lives of people,including the Khmer community, have been improved.
He appreciated the community’s efforts tofollow the Party’s policies and the State’s laws, as well as theirparticipation in movements launched by the VFF and their contributions tosocio-economic development.
He expressed his hope that Khmer people will behappier and contribute more to national building and safeguarding.
Chol Chnam Thmay is one of the most important festivals for Khmer people. Itusually lasts three days and is celebrated mostly in pagodas. The festival is ademonstration of Khmer people’s aspirations, like many other ethnic groups, tomove on from the previous year’s misfortunes and look forward to a promisingnew year.-VNA
Local Khmer ethnic minority people in the Mekong Delta province of Soc Trang are celebrating their traditional New Year Festival - Chol Chnam Thmay from April 14-16.
The unique colours of Khmer culture are part of the rich variety among the 54 nationalities who live in Vietnam, said Dang Hung, head of the Bac Lieu province’s Union of Associations for Literature and Arts.
Nearly 1,000 Vietnamese, Lao and Cambodian students joined in a get-together at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics and Law (UEL) on April 1 to celebrate the Lao Bun Pi May festival and the Cambodian Chol Chnam Thmay festival.

At a review conference held on June 21, Deputy Minister of Construction Nguyen Van Sinh praised the province’s scientific, coordinated, and flexible approach.
