Vietnam can earn 7.5 billion USD from vegetable and fruit exports this year – the highest-ever figure recorded, according to the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association (Vinafruit).

Vegetable and fruit exports plunged 9.6 percent year-on-year to 508 million USD in the first two months of 2022 due to a sharp decrease in shipments to China, according to the General Department of Vietnam Customs.

Earnings from vegetable and fruit exports to China, Vietnam’s largest market, stood at 144.2 million USD in July, a year-on-year drop of 44.2 percent, statistics of the General Department of Vietnam Customs showed.

With good results seen in the first seven months of this year, experts forecast that the revenue target of 4.2 billion USD in vegetable and fruit exports for 2019 is reachable.

The EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) not only opens the door wide for Vietnam's agro-forestry-aquaculture exports, but also promotes the country's agricultural sector to improve its competitiveness, according to experts.

The growth of vegetable and fruit exports slowed down significantly this year but the target of reaching 10 billion USD in revenue in 2025 was still within reach, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD).

Vietnam earned some 3.3 billion USD from vegetable and fruit exports during January-October, up 15.5 percent from the same time last year, the Agro Processing Market Development Authority (AgroTrade) under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has said.

Earnings from vegetable and fruit exports in the first seven months of the year are estimated at 2.3 billion USD, a year-on-year surge of 12.6 percent, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development’s Processing and Market Development Authority (AgroTrade).

Export turnover of agro-forestry-aquatic products in January 2018 was estimated at 3.09 billion USD, up 25.9 percent against the same period last year.
