HCM City (VNA) – Politburo member and Secretary of Ho Chi Minh City’sParty Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan hosted a reception on April 17 for visiting Commanderof United States Indo-Pacific Command (USINDOPACOM) Admiral Philip Davidson.

Welcoming the firstvisit to Ho Chi Minh City by the commander, Nhan affirmed that the visit willhelp enhance the fine Vietnam-US cooperation.

He thanked the US forsupporting Vietnam in dealing with dioxin and training Vietnam’s peacekeepers.

Ho Chi Minh City hopesto intensify collaboration with the US, thus contributing to fosteringVietnam-US comprehensive partnership, for the benefits of the two countries, theregions and the world, Nhan added.

Davidson said that theUS wants to boost cooperation with Vietnam in numerous fields, including intraining of the UN peacekeeping forces, exchanges between the two navies, andhumanitarian relief.

He thanked Vietnam forits contributions to the second summit between the US and the DemocraticPeople’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), and for backing the US in activities to ensurethe freedom of navigation in Asia. -VNA
