Hanoi (VNS/VNA) - The United States Agency for International Development(USAID) and the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI) of Vietnam signed anamendment to their bilateral partnership agreement to expand USAID’s support toinclude local capacity development.
Theamended agreement will expand joint efforts to strengthen private sectorcompetitiveness, innovation and start-up ecosystems, human capital, and localcapacity building.
Underthis amended agreement, USAID's contribution in these areas will increase from 42million USD to up to 100 million USD, and will continue for an additional threeyears, to September 30, 2028.
USAIDVietnam Mission Director Ann Marie Yastishock said: “This agreement reflectsthe United States’ continued commitment to support Vietnam's efforts to becomea more open, innovative, and inclusive economy. Through close collaborationwith the Government of Vietnam, we can ensure that USAID’s developmentassistance will meet our two countries’ mutual vision for a prosperous andindependent Vietnam."
USAIDtechnical assistance will enhance the capacity of Vietnamese small and growingbusinesses, including those led by vulnerable populations, by facilitatingaccess to competitiveness-enhancing technology, business management skills, andcapital.
Theagreement will strengthen the high-quality human capital needed for a robustknowledge-based economy.
USAIDtechnical assistance will also help improve the capacity of participating localgovernments (provincial level and below) to effectively implement policies, aswell as increase interaction between local governments, the private sector, andother stakeholders on issues of local socio-economic development./.
