Cairo (VNA) - US Special PresidentialEnvoy for Climate John Kerry on November 7 affirmed support to Vietnam in justenergy transition and climate change response.

At a meeting with Vietnamese Minister of NaturalResources and Environment Tran Hong Ha on the sidelines of the 27th UN Climate Change Conference (COP27), Kerry said the US will boost cooperationwith Vietnam and work together with the Southeast Asian nation to fulfillclimate commitments.

For his part, Ha reiterated Vietnam’s commitment madeat COP26 to achieving net zero emissions by 2050 and stressed that the countryis rolling out comprehensive measures in energy transition to complete thetarget.

However, he said, ensuring energy security to serve economicdevelopment and reducing greenhouse gas emissions at the same time requireinternational support in terms of both resources and technology.

The two sides compared notes on ways and solutions to copewith climate change and limit global warming to below 1.5 degrees Celsius asset in the Paris Agreement on climate change.

The COP27 is taking place in Egypt from November 6-18./.

Vietnam pioneers use of A𝐆I and remote sensing to monitor seawater quality

According to Dr. Vu Anh Tuan, Deputy Director General of the Vietnam Space Centre and head of the project, this is the first study in Vietnam to simultaneously employ Sentinel-2 satellite data, advanced machine learning algorithms, and the Google Earth Engine (GEE) cloud computing platform to model and monitor key seawater quality parameters.

In 2019, Quang Ninh became one of the first localities in Vietnam to launch a province-wide campaign against plastic waste, mobilising the participation of the political system, the business sector, and the general public. Other localities—such as Hai Phong, Da Nang, Binh Duong, and Ho Chi Minh City—have also effectively implemented waste-sorting initiatives at source, along with models for plastic-free markets and urban areas.
