US naval ships arrive in Da Nang

– US Navy aircraftcarrier USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71) and the guided-missile cruiser USSBunker Hill (CG52) arrived in the central coastal city of Da Nang on March 5,beginning an official visit to Vietnam as part of activities to mark the 25thanniversary of Vietnam-US diplomatic ties.

The US delegation was led by Admiral JohnC.Aquilino, commander of the US Pacific Fleet, and US Ambassador to VietnamDaniel Kritenbrink.

After the welcome ceremony, Vice Chairman of themunicipal People’s Committee Ho Ky Minh co-chaired a press conference withAdmiral John C. Aquilino.

Minh said local authorities and people warmlywelcome the visit by the US naval ships, which is a practical activity tocelebrate the 25-year diplomatic relations and promote the bilateralcomprehensive partnership between the two countries.

Admiral John C.Aquilino expressed thanks to thecity for the warm welcome, especially in the context of the COVID-19 epidemicspreading all over the world.

During the visit, which will last until March 9,the US delegation will participate in community activities such as cultural andsport exchanges, and share their expertise and experience in response toincidents, disasters and diseases. They will also visit popular tourismdestinations in the city.

The same day, the commanders of the US navalships paid a courtesy visit to Chairman of the municipal People’s CommitteeHuynh Duc Tho.

USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71) is the second USNavy aircraft carrier to visit Da Nang over the past three years, after the USSCarl Vinson in March 2018./.
