US helps Vietnam minimise child labour

The Prime Minister has approved a US-financed project on improving the national capacity of preventing and minimising the use of child labour in the country.
The Prime Minister has approved a US-financed project on improving thenational capacity of preventing and minimising the use of child labourin the country.

The project, which is sponsored bythe United States Department of Labor via the International LabourOrganisation, will be implemented over 60 months in Hanoi, Ho Chi MinhCity, Mekong delta An Giang province and other localities by theMinistry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs.

Itlooks to provide technical assistance for the examination and revisionof laws and policies associated with child labour in line withinternational commitments that Vietnam made or will take on.

The capacity of Vietnamese agencies and related organisations indetermining and solving child labour issues will be enhanced.

Awareness-raising campaigns will be launched while multi-layeredintervention models to prevent or help children avoid the risks offalling victim of any forms of child labour will be built.

The project is implemented with a total capital of 9.2 million USD, inwhich 8 million USD is non-refundable ODA capital from the USDepartment of Labor and the remainder is corresponding capital.-VNA
