Phnom Penh (VNA) – The US Government has recently committed anadditional 1.5 million USD in funds to assist Cambodia’s fight against theCOVID-19 pandemic, according to the US Embassy in Cambodia’s April 27 pressrelease.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, the US has committedover 3.5 million USD in total through the US Agency for InternationalDevelopment (USAID) to mitigate the spread of the disease in the SoutheastAsian country.

US Ambassador Patrick Murphy said that the additionalassistance will help Cambodia’s health system track the disease, treat those infected with the coronavirus, and prevent further virus transmission.

The risk of COVID-19 infection in Cambodia remains at analarming level, although it had recorded no new cases for the 16th consecutive day on April 28.

By the day, the country confirmed 122 infection cases, ofwhom 119 fully recovered. However, the spokesperson of the Cambodian HealthMinistry Or Vandine said that the country is still in the first phase of thedisease and the second wave of infections can appear at any times./.
