Hanoi (VNA) – The US is considering to further ease sanctions against Myanmar as State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi will visit the White Hou🧔se from Septem🐭ber 14-15.

According to Reuters, President Barack Obama is expected to decide on the extent of the sanctions relief after consultations between two sides.
Most of the remaining US measures restrict business with Myanmar military-run enterprises, including bans on imports of jade and gemstones from the Southeast Asian country, and with black-listed individuals. President Obama has already relaxed some sanctions on Myanmar , including the removal of some Myanmar ’s state-owned banks from the US blacklist, and of measures against seven key state-owned timber and mining firms in May.
However, many restrictions were renewed for another year. The US is studying things related to trade and investment to improve the business environment in Myanmar , a US government source said. Suu Kyi’s visit to the US will be her first since her National League for Democracy (NLD) won the general election in 2015.-VNA
