“ China ’sunilateral deployment of a state-owned oil rig in the waters of theSouth China/East Sea off the Paracel Islands is deeplyconcerning,” he stressed.
These waters are subjectto an ongoing territorial dispute between China and Vietnam whichmust be resolved through peaceful negotiation in the appropriatebilateral and multilateral forums, he added.
According to the congressman, this incident is the latest in a series ofactions taken by Beijing that have contributed to a growing senseof uneasiness in the region.
