UNDP digital skill training programme benefits female entrepreneurs

Hanoi (VNA) – A community of young female entrepreneurs equipped with digital skills has begun to take shape following the freshly ended Empower Her Tech programme by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
Vietnam is implementing its national digital programme to 2025 with a vision to 2030, focusing on the building of a digital government, a digital economy, and a digital society. Challenges facing the process include a significant gender gap in the technological realm. According to a research by the Vietnam Women’s Union, local females see little chance to access and use digital resources compared to the opposite sex, hindering the group in leveraging them for learning and working purposes.
Against the backdrop, the training programme, co-organised by the UNDP and Alobase Technology and Services JSC, targeted boosting digital skills for female entrepreneurs and women aged 18-35 with non-tech startup ideas. Sixty learners, selected from 300 candidates registered, underwent 10 lessons, which taught them Wix – a no-code website building tool, generative artificial intelligence (AI) technology, and Canva – a design tool for non-professionals, among others.
UNDP Resident Representative in Vietnam Ramla Khalidi stated that Empower Her Tech is a small contribution aimed at narrowing the gender gap in the digital technology sector and promoting sustainable development for all.

In the time to come, the programme will continue toward building a community of young female entrepreneurs, with a handbook on Canva, generative AI, and Wix published and distributed to educational institutions in Vietnam, benefiting all youth, regardless of gender./.
Thirty-nine students with disabilities will develop the skills needed to take on digital employment opportunities to help them live independently, support their families and contribute to the digital economy.
Vietnam is among four countries demonstrating gender parity in digital skills, according to a new analysis by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
