UN Women, RoK partner to help Vietnam’s drought-affected women
UN Women Vietnam and the Republic of Korea’s Government have signed a cooperation agreement worth 300,000 USD to assist drought-hit women and girls in in the Mekong Delta and the Central Highlands.

Hanoi (VNA) – UN Women 💯Vietnam and the Republic of Korea’s (RoK) Government have signed a cooperation agreement worth 300,000 USD to assist women and girls in drought-hit districts in the Mekong Delta and the Central Highlands of Vietnam.
The cooperation will help improve sanitary conditions for 15,000 women and girls of 7,500 low-income families in six districts affected by the saltwater intrusion and severe drought in the Mekong Delta province of Ca Mau and the Central Highlands provinces of Kon Tum and Gia Lai.
This effort is expected to prevent the spreading of diarrhea, dysentery, hand-foot and mouth, dengue fever and skin diseases. It will also help improve the targeted women’s awareness of sanitation and nutrition.
Shoko Ishikawa, UN Women Country Representative in Vietnam, said with the RoK’s assistance, the organisation can provide basic sanitary products to help women and their families protect their health.
RoK Ambassador to Vietnam Lee Hyuk said he hopes the cooperation, which is in conformity with the RoK Government’s “Better Life for Girls” initiative, will help improve sanitary conditions for women and girls in the drought-hit areas and mitigate the risk of disease outbreaks.
The RoK Government pledges continued support for Vietnam in dealing with the impacts of climate change by sharing related experience and knowledge, he added.
The Central Highlands and Mekong Delta have experienced an acute drought since late 2015, hampering access to safe water and sanitary conditions for at least 2 million people, including 1 million women and 520,000 girls.
Recently, UN Women also received 400,000 USD funded by the UN Emergency Fund to support 20,000 women and girls in areas suffering from drought in Vietnam.-VNA
Deputy PM Pham Binh Minh has directed relevant agencies in receiving and using the Asian Development Bank’s emergency aid to help the country deal with impacts of drought and saline intrusion.
The US has provided 500,000 USD in additional emergency assistance to people in Mekong Delta provinces as they experienced the worst drought and saltwater intrusion in Vietnam in the last decade.
Vietnam and the World Bank signed an agreement on July 11 to provide Vietnam with 560 million USD in loans to implement climate change response projects in Mekong Delta localities.
Politburo member and Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue emphasized that climate change is posing serious threats to the Mekong Delta, which produces half of Vietnam’s rice output.
Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh has called on the international community to continue supporting Vietnam in effectively implementing the National Strategy on Climate Change Adaptation.

In recent decades, Vietnam’s mainstream media has become a reliable and persuasive channel for showcasing the nation’s development policies and achievements, especially in economic matters, according to a senior assistant editor at the Times of India.
A hub for sharing best practices, the event aims to forge solutions for financial sustainability, public media contracts, audience engagement, content innovation, and newsroom restructuring. It is also a moment for Vietnam’s media to accelerate its progress and figure out what the “revolutionary press” means in a new era.
From “Thanh nien”, Vietnam’s first revolutionary newspaper founded by Nguyen Ai Quoc (later President Ho Chi Minh) on June 21, 1925, the revolutionary press has remained devoted to its sacred missions -accompanying the nation, serving the Fatherland, and working for the people.
