The General Assembly of the United Nations held a minute’s silence to remember Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang, who passed away on September 21 in Hanoi.

NewYork, (VNA) - The General Assembly of the United Nations held aminute’s silence to remember Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang, who passedaway on September 21 in Hanoi.
           
ꦏ Before opening the 3rd plenary session ofthe UN General Assembly with the participation of 193 member nations, theGeneral Assembly President Maria Fernanda Espinosa Garces announced the death of the Vietnamese head of Stateand extended deep condolences to the President’s family, and the Government andpeople of Vietnam.

Sheasked the participants to devote a minute of silence to remember the Vietnameseleader. Head ofthe Vietnamese permanent delegation to the UN Ambassador Dang Dinh Quyexpressed thanks to international friends for their sympathy over the grief andgreat loss of the Vietnamese people at the sudden death of President Tran DaiQuang. Earlier the same day, the spokesman of the UN Secretary-GeneralAntonio Guterres issued a statement saying that the Secretary-Generalwas saddened to learn of the death of President Tran Dai Quang of Vietnam and presents his deepestsympathies to the President’s family and to the Government and people of Vietnam.  “Afriend of the United Nations and an important promoter of Vietnam’sdevelopment, President Quang will be long remembered in his country and beyond,” the statement said.  President Tran Dai Quang  passed away at 10:05am on September 21 in Hanoi at the age of 62 due to serious illness. He was elected State President of Vietnam at the 11th session of the 13th National Assembly on April 2, 2016.-VNA.
