HCMCity (VNA) – The Netherlands-based Uber BV Company has completed itsremaining tax arrears payment of 53 billion VND (2.26 million USD), immediatelyafter the firm withdrew its petition against the Ho Chi Minh City’s Departmentof Tax department.
Accordingto the deputy general director of the department, his agency in early September2017 issued a decision on the punishment of administrative violations on taxand collection of over 66.68 billion VND of arrears for Uber BV.
However,Uber BV paid only 13.3 billion VND (568,761 USD) and refused to pay the remaining53 billion VND, which included the value added tax and personal income taxpayable by its drivers. It made a complaint to the Ministry of Finance and suedthe tax department to the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Court.
Inlate March 2018, Uber BV stoppedoperations and closed all offices in Vietnam by merging with Grab, causingdifficulty for the municipal tax department in collecting tax arrears from thefirm.
However, on July 26, Uber BV withdrew its petition against thedepartment. The municipal People’s Court decided to suspend Uber’sadministrative law suit against the department.
The Department said the firm was fined for wrongful declaration, resulting in ashortage of tax of nearly 10.3 billion VND (440,469 USD), and payable taxarrears of nearly 51.48 billion VND (over 2.2 million USD).
In addition, the company also has to pay a late payment of 4.9 billion VND(209,494 USD) as of August 31, 2017. –VNA
The Ministry of Transport has submitted the draft of a new circular that includes regulations for passenger transport (by car) through software such as Uber and Grab.
Contracted Uber and Grab cars are not allowed to run across 13 streets in the capital city during rush hours, 6 – 9 am and 4:30 – 7:30 pm, starting January 11.
