Two wartime bombs found near Red River islet safely defused
The bombs were identified as M-118 demolition bombs, each weighing over 1,300 kilogrammes, measuring 220 centimetres in length, with a diameter of 65 centimetres, and containing more than 800 kilogrammes of TNT.

Hanoi (VNA)ཧ – The Hanoi Capital High Command reported on September 19 that its engineering unit safely recovered and transported two unexploded wartime bombs found near an alluvial islet in the Red River to Cam Son firing range in Bac Ninh province for controlled detonation.
The bombs were discovered by fishermen on September 15 near the alluvial islet in the Red River. Local defence forces secured the site and reported to higher authorities. On September 18, sappers from the Hanoi Capital High Command, in coordination with relevant ward military units, recovered the bombs and transported them to Bac Ninh’s Cam Son firing range for disposal.
According to authorities, the bombs were identified as M-118 demolition bombs, each weighing over 1,300 kilogrammes, measuring 220 centimetres in length, with a diameter of 65 centimetres, and containing more than 800 kilogrammes of TNT. Both were found with intact fuses, posing a high level of danger.
In 2024, three bombs of the same type were discovered near Long Bien bridge and were also safely defused by relevant forces./.
The bomb was discovered on June 14 during construction of an anti-erosion embankment along the Se Pon River, less than 70 metres from the border marker. It measured 1.54 metres in length and 274mm in diameter.
