Hanoi (VNA) –𒊎 Two Philippine women were kidnapped on a road connecting Iraq’s capital city of Baghdad to oil-rich city of Kirkuk, local security and military officials said on July 7.

Those women were travelling with three other Filipinos to Erbil, the capital of Iraqi Kurdistan in northern Iraq, and then their car broke down.  When the two of them got out of the car, a group of unknown men drove by in a yellow car and took them. The motive of the kidnappers remained unclear. Kidnapping and attacks launched by elements of the self-claimed Islamic State (IS) has recently increased in the area. Last month, at least eight members of the security forces were abducted and later killed on the same road.-VNA
