Trung Son hydropower puts fourth turbine into operation

The fourth and last turbine of the Trung Son hydropower plant in the central province of Thanh Hoa began generating electricity for the national grid on June 20.

Hanoi (VNA)
– The fourth and lastturbine of the Trung Son hydropower plant in the central province of Thanh Hoabegan generating electricity for the national grid on June 20, nearly twomonths after the launch of the third turbine, according to Electricity ofVietnam group.

The plant, located in Trung Son commune, QuanHoa district, is Vietnam’s first hydropower project funded by credit loanedfrom the World Bank.

The project is invested by Trung Son HydropowerCo. Ltd, a subsidiary of the EVN Power Generation Corporation 2. The factoryhas four turbines with a combined capacity of 260 MW.

In full operation, the plant is expected to supplymore than 1 billion kWh for the national grid each year and help controlflooding in areas downstream the Ma River.

The project is also expected to contribute tolocal socio-economic development, poverty reduction while minimisingenvironmental and social impacts.

Construction on the plant began in November 2012and the first turbine was put into use in February.–VNA
