Hanoi (VNA) – A Malaysian court on December 18 postponed the trial of an Indonesiansuspect accused of killing a citizen of the Democratic People’sRepublic of Korea (DPRK) at a Malaysian airport in 2017 using the VX nerveagent.
Siti Aisyah, 26, ischarged along with Doan Thi Huong, a 29-year-old Vietnamese, of poisoning theDPRK passport holder with the name of Kim Chol.
She was originallyset to take the stand in January next year, after the court ruled in Augustthat prosecutors had successfully established a case against her and Huong.
However, the judge onDecember 18 ordered a stay to allow her lawyer to appeal a court decision notto compel prosecutors to turn over copies of statements made by sevenwitnesses.
Siti Aisyah's lawyer,Gooi Soon Seng, said the documents were vital to her case, as five of thewitnesses had gone missing.
The court setDecember 21 to decide whether the trial would continue with Huong's defence orbe postponed until Aisyah's appeal has concluded.
Previously,on August 16, Judge Azmi bin Ariffin said that the prosecutors had made primafacie evidence against the accused women and, therefore, called upon them toenter their defence on their respective charges before the final ruling isgiven.
Meanwhile,the Shah Alam High Court in Malaysia’s Selangor state announced on November 7the new confrontation dates for the two female suspects.-VNA
