Hanoi (VNA) – Tran Dai Quang was re-elected as President of Viet𝕴nam for the 2016 – 2021 tenure during a plenum of the 14th National Assembly (NA)’s first session on July 25.
Tran Dai Quang was elected as President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam at the 11th session of the 13th NA in April, 2016.
Among 487 of the 494 NA deputies present at the plenary session, 485 lawmakers, or 98.18 percent of the total legislators, agreed to choose him for the Presidency by secret ballot.
Later, the parliament approved a resolution on electing the President with 97.98 percent of the votes approving.
At the following swearing-in ceremony, President Tran Dai Quang vowed to “absolutely be loyal to the Fatherland, the People and the Constitution of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, and make concerted efforts to fulfill the tasks assigned by the Party, the State and the People.”
He said in his inaugural address that he promises to devote himself to serving the Fatherland and the people. He will closely coordinate with the NA, the Government and relevant agencies to perform his duties, proactively engage in fine-tuning the legal system, and improve the management effectiveness of the socialist law-governed State, which is of the people, by the people and for the people.
The President also pledged to ensure the building of revolutionary, regular, elite and modern armed forces so as to firmly safeguard the country’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, along with political stability and peace for national development.
He will also work hard to promote the great national unity bloc, comprehensive reforms, and proactive integration while raising Vietnam’s stature and prestige in the world.-VNA
Chairwoman of the 13th National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan was re-elected as the head of the 14th legislature during the body’s first session on July 22.

The 14th National Assembly Standing Committee submitted Tran Dai Quang as a candidate for the position of State President for the 2016-2020 term to the NA during the first session of the 14th NA.
