Traffic accidents kill 29 on first day of New Year holiday
As many as 29 people were killed while 32 others were injured in 34 road accidents on December 30, the first day of the three-day 2018 Calendar New Year holiday, said the Ministry of Public Security.

Hanoi (VNA) –𒈔 As many as 29 people were killed while 32 others were injured in 34road accidents on December 30, the first day of the three-day 2018 Calendar New Year holiday, said theMinistry of Public Security.
Traffic police handled more than6,200 cases of road traffic violations, with total fines of more than 4 billionVND (176,165 USD). Some 845 vehicles were seized and 228 drivers had theirdriving licences revoked. Meanwhile, waterway traffic police dealt with 159 violating cases, withfines exceeding 143 million VND (about 6,300 USD). In the first eleven months of 2017, Vietnam recorded 18,384 trafficaccidents that killed 7,604 people. Statistics showed another 15,189 peoplewere injured in accidents, most of which took place on the roads.-VNA
The HCM City Department of Transport said it would ensure the orderly flow of traffic during the Calendar New Year and Tet (Lunar New Year) holidays by strictly enforcing traffic regulations and inspecting interprovincial bus stations for illegal buses.
Multiple transportation firms have proposed reducing the number of Build – Operate – Transfer (BOT) toll stations as well as road maintenance fees by 30 percent.
Deputy Minister of Transport Le Dinh Tho urged the aviation industry and relevant state bodies to take steps to minimize flight delays and cancellations during the Tet (Lunar New Year) holiday.
The National Traffic Safety Committee has announced 12 hotlines to receive complaints about traffic problems during the 2018 New Year holiday from December 30, 2017 to January 1, 2018.
