Traffic accidents drop by over 36% during Tet holiday
A total of 445 traffic accidents were reported nationwide during the nine-day Tet (Lunar New Year) holiday from January 25 to February 2, resulting in 209 fatalities and 373 injuries.

Hanoi (VNA)💟 – A total of 445 traffic accidents were reported nationwide during the nine-day Tet (Lunar New Year) holiday from January 25 to February 2, marking a 36.69% decrease compared to the same period last year, according to the Traffic Police Department.
These accidents resulted in 209 fatalities and 373 injuries, down 37.61% and 38.34% year-on-year respectively.
Of the total accidents, 442 occurred on roads, leading to 207 deaths and 372 injuries. This represented decreases of 257 accidents (36.76%), 124 fatalities (37.46%), and 232 injuries (38.41%) compared to the 2024 holiday period.
On railways, two accidents were recorded, causing one death and one injury, a reduction of two fatalities compared to last year. On inland waterways, one accident occurred, resulting in one fatality, unchanged from the previous year's holiday.
Throughout the period, local traffic police deployed 25,556 task force teams, carried out 32,783 patrols, and mobilized 137,511 officers for traffic control operations.
They detected and handled 55,842 violations of traffic safety laws, a year-on-year decrease of 40,261 cases (41.89%).
A total of 2,985 driver’s licences and professional certificates were revoked, and 7,035 driving licences had demerit points deducted. Additionally, 428 cars and 20,782 motorcycles were temporarily seized.
Violations related to alcohol and speeding made up the majority, 30.71% and 23.81%, respectively. Despite remaining high, the number of drunk driving and speeding violations dropped by 20,365 cases (54.29%) and 10,905 incidents (45.6%) compared to the previous holiday./.
Six days into the Lunar New Year holiday (from January 25 to January 30), a total of 308 traffic accidents occurred nationwide, resulting in 137 fatalities and 257 injuries.
There were 16,043 traffic accidents nationwide from December 15, 2023 to August 14, 2023, killing 7,077 people and injuring 12,248 others, reported the Office of the National Traffic Safety Committee on August 27.
