More than 9,500 traffic accidents occurred across the country in the first six months of this year, killing more than 4,100 people and injuring over 7,000 others, according to the National Committee for Traffic Safety.

Hanoi (VNA) - Morethan 9,500 traffic accidents occurred across the country in the first sixmonths of this year, killing more than 4,100 people and injuring over 7,000others, according to the National Committee for Traffic Safety.
The figures represented a drop of 636 in the number of accidents, 229 in thenumber of dead, and 1,004 in the number of injured compared to the same periodlast year.
The deadliest accident occurred in the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai atthe beginning of May when a coach crashed into a lorry, killing 13 people andinjuring dozens of others.
In June, more than 1,500 traffic accidents were recorded with over 600 dead and1,300 injured.-VNA
Traffic accidents in Hanoi killed 129 people and injured 274 others in recent months, a decline compared to the same period last year, announced the Hanoi Department of Transport.
Some 17 black spots where traffic accidents are common have been reported in HCM City. Of them, many are located on roads to sea ports and dry ports, causing serious traffic congestion and hindering the city’s development.
The Mekong Delta city of Can Tho saw a surge in road accidents between December 16, 2016 and May 3, 2017, with 31 accidents happening in the period, up nine from the same period last year.
Traffic police and authorities in HCM City are concerned about low road safety awareness of road users, which results in a large number of traffic accidents in the city.
