Hanoi (VNA) – Toyota Motor Vietnam is recalling 20,490 Corolla and Lexuscars nationwide over airbag flaws, the firm said on March 21.

The recall includes 16,964 Corollas assembled inVietnam from January 4, 2010 to December 29, 2012.

The company said the Takata airbag inflatormodule of these cars could be affected by humidity. In case of accidents, whenthe front passenger airbag system is activated, the release of inert gas couldsometimes generate too much pressure inside the inflation module and make themodule break. Metal debris could injure passengers.

Toyota Vietnam will examine and replace theairbag inflator module of the cars’ front seats free of charge.

The cars with airbags that were not provided byTakata are not subject to the recall.

Meanwhile, more than 3,526 other Toyota andLexus vehicles are also being called back over airbag sensor problems.

They include 2,043 Corollas produced in Vietnam fromJune 29, 2015 to December 16, 2015, 1,182 imported Hilux units made from July1, 2015 to November 30, 2015, one imported Toyota Prius made on June 16, 2015,46 imported Lexus NX 200ts made from May 25, 2015 to September 30, 2015 and 254imported Lexus RX 350s made from May 25, 2015 to January 6, 2016.
