Tourism sector sets ambitious target to reach fresh goals
Vietnam’s tourism sector is aiming for a very ambitious target of welcoming 25 million international visitors this year, requiring significant efforts from the entire industry, with facilitative policies and breakthrough, innovative solutions.

Hanoi (VNA) ꦫ- Vietnam’s tourism sector is aiming for a very ambitious target of welcoming 25 million international visitors this year, requiring significant efforts from the entire industry, with facilitative policies and breakthrough, innovative solutions.
According to the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) annual report, tourism currently accounts for more than 10% of global GDP. In Vietnam, tourism is also regarded as a key economic sector with breakthrough developments, helping shape the economic landscape and serving as a cultural bridge connecting Vietnam with the world.
Although it is still the low season for international tourism, the positive growth results in the past eight months have shown promising signs for the inbound tourism market.
Data from the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism (VNAT) revealed that the total number of foreign visitors from January to August was nearly 14 million, an increase of 21.7% compared to the same period in 2024. Major markets recording good growth rates include China, Japan, and India.
The reorganisation of administrative units on July 1, 2025, is creating new momentum and strength for localities, requiring the tourism sector to formulate development strategies that are commensurate with these changes.

Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ho An Phong said that the ministry and the VNAT have actively coordinated with various ministries and agencies to propose expanding visa and entry-exit pzolicies toward more openness and convenience. The most recent policy includes visa exemption for 12 European countries as part of a tourism stimulus programme, as well as visa exemption for high-profile foreigners entering Vietnam to support socio-economic development.
To achieve the goal of welcoming 25 million international visitors this year, Vietnam's tourism sector needs a comprehensive strategy that closely integrates policy solutions, product development, partnerships, promotion activities, and effective exploitation of key markets. The joint effort and synergy among government agencies, businesses, and local authorities will be the key factor determining the success of Vietnam’s tourism objectives for 2025./.
It is expected to popularise the local cultural and historical values as well as lure more people to come and visit the capital city with a unique way of travelling.
For the eight months of this year, the total number of visitors to Hanoi reached 21.58 million, up 13.9% year-on-year. Of the total, international tourist arrivals were 4.96 million, a year-on-year increase of 25.8%. Total revenue from tourism in the period hit an estimated 85.8 trillion VND, up 17.1%.
The central region is a perfect combination of world cultural heritage, vibrant festivals and diverse experiences, she said, adding that they want Hue and Da Nang to be seen as the ideal twin destinations for Malaysian travellers.
The festival aims to promote the image of Dien Bien, foster tourism cooperation between six provinces in the expanded Northwest region and Ho Chi Minh City, and enhance relations with northern Lao provinces, China, and international partners.
Vietnam’s appeal has been bolstered by the introduction and expansion of charter flights, which have significantly increased visitor numbers. Kobishchanov noted that 10–12% of travellers who might otherwise have chosen Thailand are expected to opt for Vietnam this season.
Statistics show that in the first eight months of 2025, Vietnam received nearly 14 million international visitors, averaging 1.75 million per month. To meet the target of 25 million, the sector must attract more than 11 million additional visitors in the remaining four months, equivalent to 2.75 million per month.
Tourlane described Hoi An as one of the best-preserved ancient towns in Southeast Asia, distinguished by its vibrant streets illuminated by thousands of colourful lanterns.
From September 16, visitors are allowed to access three designated routes including Tien Sa – Suoi Om – Ban Co Peak; Ban Co Peak – Bai Bac; and Bai Bac – Heritage Banyan Tree, during certain time frames.

Since 2011, the title “Vietnam Tourism Ambassador” has been conferred on several distinguished figures, each of whom has played a part in carrying the country’s image onto the global stage.
The operation of the cultural train, Metro Line 2A, and bus routes not only eases traffic congestion but also opens new opportunities to explore Hanoi in a modern, eco-friendly way.
The initiative seeks to foster linkages between tourism products across different regions while preserving and showcasing ethnic cultural identities. It also aims to enhance Lam Dong’s tourism brand in both domestic and international markets, contributing to sustainable socio-economic development.
As part of the programme, around 250 international guests enjoyed destination and culinary experiences across the city from September 4 to 8, creating memorable impressions of the southern hub.
The event offers visitors a vivid “miniature journey” through Vietnam’s diverse regions. Inside halls H5, H6, and H7, every booth is a dazzling deep dive into a locality’s culture, history, and economic potential.
The National Day holiday highlighted Vietnam’s growing appeal as a safe and adaptable destination, laying a positive foundation for the year’s final months.
The four-day holiday, which began from August 30, not only brought huge revenues to the tourism sector but also boosted domestic consumption, with strong demand for dining, shopping, and travel.
A series of major trade and tourism connectivity events opened on September 4 at the Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center (SECC) in Ho Chi Minh City, featuring Vietnam International Sourcing (VIS) 2025, the Ho Chi Minh City Export Forum, and the International Travel Expo Ho Chi Minh City (ITE HCMC) 2025.
As the host of the grand parade celebrating the 80th anniversary of National Day and the Exhibition on national achievements, Hanoi welcomed more than 2.08 million visitors during the holiday, triple the figure from the same period in 2024.
