Top Vietnamese leader welcomes Lao Prime Minister

Hanoi (VNA) – GeneralSecretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee andPresident Nguyen Phu Trong hosted a reception in Hanoi on January 6 for LaoPrime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith.

Trong congratulated Laos on itsimportant domestic and foreign achievements over the past three years ofimplementing the Resolution of its 10th National Party Congress andexpressed his delight at the deepening Vietnam-Laos relations.

He spoke highly of thecoordination between the Prime Ministers of Vietnam and Laos in directingministries, sectors and localities to effectively implement the high-levelagreements between the two Parties and States during the recent past.

The Vietnamese leader also highlyvalued the outcomes of the 41st session of the Vietnam-LaosInter-governmental Committee, describing them as a very important basis for thetwo countries to successfully implement the agreement on the cooperation planbetween the two governments in 2019, as well as the Vietnam-Laos cooperationagreement for the 2016-2020 period.

He asked the two governments tojoin hands in directing their ministries, sectors, localities and firms toactively implement the agreements reached at the session, focusing on theexchange of information and experiences in Party building, socio-economicdevelopment, close collaboration in national defence-security and foreignaffairs, and seek ways to untangle the knots so as to improve the effectivenessof the cooperation in economy, investment, trade, culture, education, andscience and technology.

The leader availed himself of theoccasion to extend his warm regards and New Year greetings to Lao Party GeneralSecretary and President BounnhangVorachith and other high-ranking leaders of the Lao Party and State.

Sisoulith, for his part,expressed his belief that under the leadership of the CPV led by the GeneralSecretary, the Vietnamese people will reap greater achievements in the renewalprocess and successfully realise the Resolution adopted by the 12th National Congress of the CPV.

Informing the host about theoutcomes of the 41st session of the Vietnam-Laos Inter-GovernmentalCommittee, Sisoulith affirmed that the Lao government will continue workingclosely with the Vietnamese government to direct ministries, agencies andlocalities effectively realise agreements reached by leaders of the two Partiesand countries as well as commitments at the 41st session.-VNA
