Can Tho, (VNA) – Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen ThiKim Ngan met with voters in Cai Rang district of the southern city of Can Thoon April 27 to collect public opinions and petitions ahead of the third plenarysession of the 14th legislature.
Voters from Hung Thanh ward of Cai Rang district focused their attentionon compensation for land clearance, health insurance, jobs for young people,child sexual abuse and allocation of public investment for Can Tho.
The NA Chairwoman affirmed that the issues of voters’ concern will be tabledfor discussion at the upcoming NA session.
Mentioning the high rate of unemployment among young people, includinguniversity graduates, in the locality, Ngan said there are several reasons forthe problem, one of which is the quality of training which fails to meetdemands of the labour market. She also pointed to the incorrect social perceptionthat only employment in State-owned agencies is proper jobs. More attentionshould be paid to training and vocation orientation, the NA Chairwoman said,urging a change of thinking among young people themselves.
Chairwoman Ngan shared voters’ proposals on imposing stricterpunishments on serious crimes such as the trading, transport and production of illegaldrugs, and causing environment pollution.
Responding to public concern about child sexual abuse, the legislatorsaid the NA has included the problem in its supervision programme and requestedthe Ministry of Public Security to report on the situation, with a view toconsidering supplementary stipulations for the revised Penal Code. Nganstressed that social condemnation is very important to prevent such illegalbehaviours.
The NA Chairwoman informed the voters that Can Tho has been allocatedthe same level of five-year public investment as Hai Phong and Da Nang cities,in order to boost its development, matching its status as one of the fivecentrally-governed cities and the centre of the Mekong Delta.
She also announced that at the upcoming plenary session, the 14th NA is scheduled to pass 13 bills and 5 resolutions while debating for the firsttime 4 draft laws. Regarding supervision work, food safety will be the focus ofthis session.-VNA
