Top legislator meets with Japanese Emperor

During his visit on December 6,National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung informed Emperor of JapanAkihito of the outcomes of talks with the President of the House ofCouncillors, Hirata Kenji, which had recently taken place in Tokyo.

Hung added that the two sides had agreed to enhancethe exchange of visits, especially between the two countries’high-ranking leaders.

He said the VietnameseState, National Assembly and Government would like to welcome theJapanese Emperor and Empress to Vietnam on the occasion of the 2013Vietnam–Japan Friendship Year and the 40th anniversary of bilateraldiplomatic ties.

Thanking Japan formaintaining official development assistance to Vietnam, Hung affirmedthat Vietnam always attaches importance to and will further inspectand supervise the use of the funds to ensure efficiency.

Akihito said he believes Hung’s visit to Japan will activelycontribute to further deepening the strategic partnership between thetwo countries in a more comprehensive manner.

Hesaid he hopes the two sides will successfully hold the Vietnam–JapanFriendship Year and the 40 th anniversary of the bilateral diplomaticties in 2013.
