Top legislator explains issues of public concern to Can Tho voters

Can Tho (VNA) - National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan had ameeting with voters in Ninh Kieu district, the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho onApril 28, to listen to their opinions on a series of issues of public concern inrecent time.

Local voters’ questions focused on such matters as public investment,environmental protection, children protection, food hygiene and safety,anti-corruption, social welfare and health insurance, among others.

Responding toqueries about how to prevent corruption effectively, the top legislatoraffirmed the Party and State attach special importance to the work.
 
She revealed that Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, as head of the Central Steering Committee for Anti-Corruption, directed competent agencies tobring a number of corruption cases to light, with 12 cases required to beclarified and publicised in 2017.

Sharing with voter’s view that it should limit the reform of the educationalprogramme to avoid making pupils and their families disordered, the NA Chairwomansaid the Ministry of Education and Training will consider this issue.

Regarding theproposal to increase penalties for crimes involving child sexual abuse, the environmentand food safety, Ngan said the NA is working to complete the legal system,adding that the revised Penal Code features new crimes relating to food safety,the environmental and drug crime with increased penalties.

On measures to minimise child sexual abuse crime, she said the legislature has assignedone of its bodies to supervise this issue and the Ministry of Public Securityto report the situation, thus considering amending the sanctions.  

Answeringvoters’ questions on how to support pig breeders suffering losses due tofalling pork prices, she attributed the situation to the oversupply and poormarket forecast for production orientation. 

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has taken measures to reduce difficultiesfacing the breeding industry in the coming time, she said, urgingauthorised agencies to give more exact market forecasts.

Regarding the proposal to build rice trademark, she said the NA will reviewrelevant legal policies to roll out proper policies.

Voters also raised their concernsabout illegal investment projects, social welfare and the increase of healthinsurance premiums.-VNA
