Hanoi (VNA) – National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan has renewed the appeal to Japan to help Vietnam build mid- and long-term solutions to drought and salt water intrusion, as agreed upon during the recent talks between the two countries’ Prime Ministers in 🧸Japan.

At a reception for Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Hiroshi Fukada in Hanoi on June 8, the NA leader also expressed interest in reports that the Japanese parliament is going to approve a law on receiving more technical trainees, noting her wish that the Ambassador will work to put Vietnam in the list of priority partners of Japan in this field.
She asked that Japan continue to provide Official Development Assistance to Vietnam and pledged that the Vietnamese NA will closely monitor the use of ODA capital to ensure its efficient use. Ambassador Fukada congratulated Ngan as the first female head of the Vietnamese National Assembly.
He said Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has announced an urgent grant worth 2.5 million USD for Vietnam to deal with drought and salinity intrusion through the construction of infrastructure such as sea dykes and reservoirs. Japan will continue to provide Vietnam with ODA and assistance in human resource training, he added. According to the Ambassador, following the Senate elections in Japan in July, the Japanese parliament will send many delegations to Vietnam to strengthen parliamentary cooperation and exchange.-VNA
