Top leader presents appointment decisions to new ambassadors

Hanoi (VNA) - Party General Secretary and State President Nguyen Phu Trong handed overappointment decisions to nine ambassadors for 2020-2023 at a ceremony in Hanoi on October 21.
They are representing Vietnam in Russia, Belgium, Singapore, France, Austria, Hungary, Chile, Sri Lanka, and Greece.
Following the ceremony, Trong met with the newly-accredited ambassadors as wellas heads of Vietnamese representative offices overseas.
Analysing the regional and global situation as well as the opportunities and challengesfacing Vietnam, he asked themto uphold the tradition of solidarity and utilise the support of international friendsto perform their tasks.
The diplomats need to thoroughly grasp and consistently implement the country’s foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, diversificationand multilateralisation of international relations, and being a trustable friend and partner and responsiblemember of the international community, he said.
They were also asked to focus on researchand analysis of the local and wider situation to propose solutions and strategiesto the Party and the State, contributing to building the foreign policy and drafting documents for the 13th National Party Congress./.
Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh handed over the appointment decisions to 12 new ambassadors for the 2020-2023 tenure on June 9, and requested they be pioneers in boosting Vietnam’s relations with partners and carrying out economic diplomacy to support post-pandemic recovery.
Vietnamese Ambassador to China Pham Sao Mai had a meeting with Mayor of Shanghai Gong Zheng on October 9, expressing his hope for stronger relations between the Chinese city and Vietnamese localities.
