Hanoi (VNA) – Party General Secretary and State President To Lam presented the Ho Chi Minh Order to the Ministry of National Defence’s General Department of Technology, on the occasion of its 50th traditional day on September 10.

After the Paris Agreement on Ending the War and Restoring Peace in Vietnam was signed in 1973, the general department was set up on September 10, 1974, marking a new qualitative advancement in the military's focus and unified approach to military technical management.

With its outstanding achievements and significant contributions to the struggle for national liberation, as well as the Fatherland building and safeguarding cause, the General Department of Technology has been awarded by the Party and State with one Gold Star Order, two Ho Chi Minh Orders, two Military Exploit Orders, and numerous other prestigious honours. Receiving the Ho Chi Minh Order for the third time on the occasion of its 50th traditional day reflects the Party, State, Central Military Commission, and Ministry of National Defence's acknowledgment of its exceptional achievements over the recent times.

Speaking at the event, Lam lauded the general department’s feats, outstanding achievements and great contributions to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation over the past 50 years.

The top leader emphasised that the general department should proactively provide advice to the Party, State, Central Military Commission, and Defence Ministry on effectively implementing projects and plans related to procurement, modernisation, and assurance of technical equipment for the military and other armed forces.

It is necessary to ensure timely technical support for the army, especially forces stationed at sea and in island and border areas, as well as for training, combat readiness, and successful combat in all scenarios, stressed Lam.

He also highlighted that in the new era, the military technical sector must lead in scientific and technological innovation, adopt the latest and most advanced achievements of human intellect to advance Vietnam's military technology and contribute to the country's industrialisation. It must also study the application of new technology and materials to the production of technical materials, and stand ready to accept the technology transfer from foreign partners so as to create a new breakthrough in the military technology work.

🌳 Lam ordered for the comprehensive, quality, and effective monitoring of technical work within the People's Army and the self-defence militia force, as well as the improvement of the quality of stored equipment to ensure timely readiness for strategic defence and security tasks./.
