Thua Thien – Hue (VNA) – The centralcoastal province of Thua Thien – Hue aims to raise nearly 7.2 trillion VND todevelop rural areas from now to 2020.

In 2017, the province strives to have nineadditional communes meeting the standards of the national programme onnew-style rural areas. Last year’s figure was seven.

The agricultural sector targets growth of over 2percent and harvesting more than 320,000 tonnes of grain and 60,000 tonnes ofseafood this year.

The rate of poor households in rural areas fellto 5.94 percent in 2016 from 14.9 percent in 2011.

Per capita income in the region was estimated at23.1 million VND in 2016, a year-on-year increase of 12.8 percent.

Thua Thien – Hue has so far built and upgraded1,104 km of rural roads while reinforcing 491 km of canals along with hundredsof other facilities such as breakwaters, water reservoirs, and water pumpingstations, helping ensure irrigation for 98 percent of cultivation areas.

The province has also improved infrastructure at125 schools.

The ratio of people holding health insurancecards was 81 percent, whilst 75 percent had access to clean water.-VNA
