Three missing in sinking ship in Han River found dead

Da Nang (VNA) – The bodies of the all missing victims in the cruise boat capsized in the Han River in central Da Nang city at night of June 4, were found in the afternoon of the day later. 

Rescue workers recovered Trinh Kim Phuong and Trinh Tien Huy, the missing children in the incident, in a location around 800 metres from the sinking ship. Meanwhile, the body of Pham Tan Cuong, 46, was discovered in a coastal area along Nguyen Tat Thanh street in Thanh Khe district, about 8km from the position that the ship wrecked.
Ship Thao Van coded DNa-0016 sunk in the Han River at 8:25 pm on June 4, 15 minutes after its departure. The ship is designed to have 28 seats. However, there were 56 people, including four Malaysians, on board when the accident happened, and 53 of them were rescued. Overloading was initially said the reason of the accident, according to the central city’ authorities. The initial investigation results showed that the ship owner violated regulations on transportation of passengers and the boat was overloaded.
Local authorities have urged the Department of Health to actively treat patients and take good care of their family members. The city has suspended all activities of tourist boats in the Han River for safety purpose while requesting relevant agencies to tighten departure procedures before resuming these activities. Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc came to the site on June 5 to direct the settlement of consequences. He urged Da Nang city to support their family members, while requesting to promptly investigate the case and commence criminal proceedings against violators to have strict punishment.
The PM and the municipal People’s Committee officials directed relevant agencies to strictly examine and inspect cruise ships, and the enforcement of waterway safety regulations of ship owners, towards ensuring absolute safety for passengers.-VNA
