Can Tho (VNA) – The third Mekong Connect 2017 will be heldon October 25-26 in Ben Tre city, the Mekong Delta province of Ben Tre, focusingon seeking measures to make full use of advanced technology to optimize thevalue of local products, the organizing board announced on October 10.
Themed “Developing local resources in association with technologystrength,” the economic forum will be a platform for domestic and internationalscholars, policy makers and businesses to share stories about promoting localresources to help the region seek new development orientations.
Held by the Vietnam Association of High Quality Products and thePeople’s Committees of four Mekong Delta localities of An Giang, Ben Tre, CanTho and Dong Thap, the forum will focus on how to promote local products suchas coconut of Ben Tre, rice of Can Tho, fish of An Giang, and lotus and tourismof Dong Thap.
Vu Kim Hanh, President of the Vietnam Association of High QualityProducts said that this year, the forum will draw representatives from 500Vietnamese firms, 100 foreign-invested businesses, and 20 international businessorganisations.
They will discuss the formation of a value chain for each product, thecommercialization of the products, changes due to technology development andarising problems.
The event will also help connect local businesses and foreign partners.
Nguyen Huu Lap, Vice Chairman of the Ben Tre People’s Committee saidthat the province has more than 70,000 hectares of coconut farm and the coconutprocessing industry earns 200 million USD from exports each year.
However, Lap said that the local government is seeking links with otherlocalities to make full use of advanced technology to increase the value ofcoconut products, including coconut milk.-VNA
