Since the Monetary Policy Committee reduced the benchmark rate, thebaht currency has appreciated, the export sector has been recovering,and the tourism sector generated more income, Dean of NIDA’s EconomicDevelopment Faculty Nada Chansom told news media.

She said that these factors signal a fragile recovering economy for the second quarter of 2015.

Nada also expressed her opinion that the government should postpone theminimum wage hike for the time being, due to the current fragileeconomic situation. She said that the administration should focus moreon assistance measures for low-income earners.

Shereiterated that thorough studies are mandatory before implementing thewage hike. She pointed out that the 2011 wages hike placed a heavyfinancial burden on small and medium-sized enterprises.-VNA
