Bac Giang (VNA) –😼 Thailand have been gold medallistsin the men’s team badminton of the ongoing SEA Games 31.
Shuttlers Kunlavut Vitidsarn, duo Chaloempon Chroenkitamorn andNanthakrn Yordphaisong, and Khosit Phetpradab defeated their Malaysianopponents 3-0 in the final held in Bac Giang province on May 18. The bronze medal went to Singapore and Indonesia. Thailand previously bagged a gold in the women’s team event. SEA Games 31, themed “For a Stronger South East Asia”, isbeing held in Hanoi and 11 neighbouring provinces and cities until May 23. It features 40 sports with 523 events, attracting around10,000 participants. The biennial event was initially slated for late 2021 butdelayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic./.
Without stars, whether Malaysia’s badminton team can retain their men’s singles and doubles titles at the coming 31st SEA Games in Vietnam remains in doubt, and they are pinning hopes on young shuttlers.
Bodybuilder Pham Van Mach joins badminton player Nguyen Tien Minh as few athletes to compete in the upcoming SEA Games 31 and they had previously participated in SEA Games 22 which was also hosted by Vietnam in 2003.
Loh Kean Yew may have achieved great success becoming world champion after winning the World Badminton Championships last year, but the SEA Games gold medal continues to elude the Singaporean men’s singles ace.
Loh Kean Yew, who was crowned badminton world champion last December, desires to shine at SEA Games, and this year's Games will be the Singaporean athlete’s fourth.
